ROD found on Kauai: Your help is requested in helping to keep it from spreading to new areas
Actions like avoiding areas known to have ROD whenever possible, always cleaning your shoes and gear before AND after visiting the forest, and not transporting ohia logs around Kauai, these are the most important ways that the community can help at this point.
The public can also help by knowing the signs and symptoms of ROD: a limb or crown of an ohia suddenly turns dry and brown for no apparent reason. ROD cannot be diagnosed without taking a wood sample and submitting it for testing. If you see ohia on Kauai with these symptoms, please contact KISC to describe the location.
